Jacksonville NAIOP leaders lobby for changes to sales tax on commercial leases
The commercial real estate industry is fighting once again to eliminate sales tax on commercial leases in Florida, the only state to charge them.
Four bills have been introduced in the State Legislature to reduce or get rid of the 6 percent tax, which opponents say puts the state at a competitive disadvantage. One of those bills (HB 101 by Rep. Greg Steube) calls for a gradual elimination, and the other (SB 140 by Sen. Dorothy Hukill) is a partial reduction.
