EPIC shows off million-dollar measuring machine at new Siemens lab (PHOTOS)

UNC Charlotte’s Energy Production and Infrastructure Center unveiled a $1 million piece of equipment Monday that’s the centerpiece of its new Siemens Energy Large Manufacturing Solutions Laboratory.

The Leitz PMM-F 30-20-16 installed at the laboratory can measure the details of manufacturing parts that are more than nine cubic feet in size down to a tolerance of a fraction of the width of a human hair, says John Ziegert, who heads the lab.
