Sporting goods store could fill Regency Mall's vacant Sears

In a hint of good news to come for Racine’s struggling Regency Mall, the property owner said a deal is in the works to bring an unnamed sporting goods store into the mall’s vacant Sears anchor space.

The 89,000-square-foot store closed in January 2014, followed later that year by news that Regency’s remaining anchor tenant J.C. Penney was also closing. Both national retail chains have been shuttering locations around the country, compounding the challenges of maintaining a mall in the era of e-commerce.
