Word last week that the U.S. Custom House will get a new tenant hints at what could be a very different vibe near the Broadway Bridge’s west end.

Indeed, WeWork’s announcement — the New York-based provider of coworking space will occupy nearly the 79,000-square-foot space — almost seems like a precursor to something bigger. That is, the U.S. Custom House sits on a block that serves as the Pearl District’s unofficial eastern boundary.
