New property tax bills would stymie appeals from trophy towers

Three new bills up in the Texas legislature this year take aim at a passage in the tax code that counties are saying has sharply increased the number of lawsuits against appraisal districts in the state — and taxpayers are footing a $16.1 million bill to cover the litigation.

Denver OKs redevelopment plan for National Western Stock Show site

The Denver City Council approved a long-awaited makeover plan for the site of the National Western Stock Show, opening the doors to an $856 million redevelopment.

The Denver Post reports the city council voted 11-0 in favor of the plan at Monday’s meeting; two council members weren’t there. The makeover would take about 10 years to complete. The New York Power Authority board of trustees has approved a round of low-cost power to support capital projects for HSBC Bank USA Inc. and Wendt Corp.
