Former Claysville truck stop could have new life in energy industry

The closed truck stop along Interstate 70 in Claysville has been purchased.

The Observer-Reporter said it was bought by by Frank Brownlee, who owns Brownlee Trucking in Avella. It had been a truck stop and restaurant for years before closing down in May after a liquidation. The purchase price wasn’t immediately available but it had been owned before that by Community Bank.

Brownlee told the newspaper he was considering a use for the land involving the oil and gas industry.

Impact Family Counseling purchases Vestavia building for $2 million

Birmingham’s Impact Family Counseling has purchased the Douglas building in Vestavia Hills and will expand its Magic City footprint by spring.

The non-profit counseling service, which works with seven metro schools, acquired the two-story, 20,000-square-foot property from Mountainside Capital I LLC for $1.9 million, according to Jefferson County public records.

The property, located at 701 Montgomery Highway, is currently occupied by Dollar General on the first floor.

Long-vacant Finney Library in Milwaukee could be reborn as artist incubator

The long-shuttered Finney Library on North Avenue could be sold to Milwaukeean Matt Bohlmann, who wants to restore the building into an incubator for local artists.

Also this week, housing industry vets Richard Ruvin and Katie Falk are teaming up at Coldwell Banker.

The city-owned Finney Library sits on the busy corner of West North Avenue and North Sherman Boulevard, and has been vacant for a decade or more. At least two developers have unsuccessfully attempted projects on the site in years past.…

Two residential towers approved downtown

Two new residential projects are planned for downtown and have been approved for the Downtown Living Initiative, which now has nearly reached its cap.

The program offers developers up to $15,000 for each unit built in a multifamily complex of at least 10 units. The Houston Downtown Management District approved the two new projects at a board meeting Feb. 12.

Kilroy buys full block in South Lake Union, plans to demolish KING 5 studio

Kilroy Realty Corp. has scooped up another property in Seattle’s South Lake Union, but unlike the previous acquisitions this one is a re-development play.

The company bought the full block where KING 5 has operated for decades. According to the deed that was recorded with King County, Kilroy (NYSE: KRC) paid KING Broadcasting Co. just over $42.5 million for the nearly 1.9 acres at 333 Dexter Ave. N.

Officials of Kilroy, which invests in and develops office projects, could not be reached Friday.…
