Golden Construction breaks ground on $35 million Louisiana multifamily project

Birmingham-based Golden Construction has started work on a $35 million multifamily development in Baton Rouge, La.

The four-story Bayonne at SouthShore project is underway and will consist of 240 units over 113,360 square feet of space.

“This will be one of Baton Rouge’s finest residential rental communities, if not the finest,” said Mike Wampold, who is developing Bayonne.

U.S. sales drive SolarWorld's revenue through the roof

U.S. solar sales helped drive revenue by 50 percent for SolarWorld AG, the German parent to Hillsboro-based SolarWorld USA.

SolarWorld said consolidated revenue rose 50 percent in the first quarter of 2015 compared to the same quarter of 2014 and that shipments of solar modules and kits rose 44 percent over the same period.

U.S. shipments rose 170 percent and the company said it controls 57 percent of the total market.

Hawaii gas prices begin to climb

Hawaii is one of only three states enjoying lower gas prices than they did four weeks ago, according to the website GasBuddy.com.

The others are Illinois and Wisconsin.

However, gas prices in Honolulu are heading upward, GasBuddy says. The average price of a gallon of regular was $2.98 on Sunday, rising 4.8 cents during the past week. It was still 7.7 cents a gallon below a month ago and was bucking the national average, which rose 10.7 cents a gallon over the past month.

A New York storage facility company recently purchased a warehouse off Beach Blvd. for nearly twice its assessed value, according to Duval County Records.

Uncle Bob’s Self Storage purchased the CubeSmart facility at 14130 Beach Blvd. from Beach Blvd. Investment LLC last Tuesday for $6.5 million. Dr. Jesus Pulido and Dr. Michael Koren were registered as the sellers.

The 83,500-square-foot facility last sold in 2008 for $1.4 million.
