With support in Boston waning, can D.C. get back in the Olympic picture? (Video)

At an Economic Club of Washington, D.C. luncheon last week, Carlyle Group co-founder David Rubenstein asked D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser if the city’s bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics could be resurrected if Boston pulled out.

Bowser said she was impressed with the work Russ Ramsey and the Washington 2024 group did in putting a bid together.

“If they wanted to get back in it, then I would perk up,” Bowser said.

But can D.C. really get back into the mix to host the 2024 Games?

Block & Grinder finalizes plans for second location

Block & Grinder says construction will start on its new restaurant in Mooresville within the next few weeks.

The 6,000-square-foot location will the second for the eatery. Owner Jed Kampe describes the concept as a restaurant built around a butcher shop.

The goal is to open the location at Langtree Lake Norman by mid-August, he says.

Block & Grinder will serve as a fine-dining option for that mixed-used development off exit 33 of Interstate 77, Kampe adds.

Crude oil is trading at six-year lows but San Antonio-based Primera Energy is hoping that a geological formation found just below the Eagle Ford Shale layer will be their “sweet spot.”

Primera is currently drilling on 380 acres of land off County Road 415 near Flatonia in Gonzales County, which is in the eastern end of the Eagle Ford Shale.

Oncor auction passes another deadline Monday

Oncor’s auction reaches another milestone at midnight Monday with the second round of bidding coming to an end.

The largest utility company in Texas is up for grabs because its parent company, Energy Future Holdings, is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy court. As a regulated utility with a monopoly within its service area, Oncor had ring-fence protections from the restructuring.

The auction will be for the 80 percent of Oncor that EFH owns.
