Southwestern Energy makes another multimillion-dollar deal

Southwestern Energy Co. (NYSE: SWN) will sell more assets for $218 million and use the proceeds to pay down debt.

The Houston-based company will sell conventional oil and gas assets in East Texas and the Arkoma Basin in a deal that’s expected to close in the second quarter of this year. The buyer was not disclosed. Houston-based RBC Richardson Barr advised Southwestern in the deal.

Shareholders approve merger of Houston energy companies

About 98 percent of participating C&J Energy Services Inc. (NYSE: CJES) shareholders on March 20 approved the proposed merger with Nabors Industries Ltd. (NYSE: NBR) that is expected to close next week.

The roughly $1.4 billion deal involves Houston-based C&J acquiring the production and completion businesses of Bahamas-based Nabors, which has its operational headquarters in Houston.

C&J Chairman and CEO Josh Comstock praised the shareholder votes.

Houston energy MLP files for IPO

Houston-based Black Stone Minerals Company LP said March 20 it has filed a registration statement for an initial public offering of a master limited partnership.

Black Stone would contribute its mineral and royalty and working interests to the MLP, Black Stone Minerals LP. The company says its interests include approximately 16.7 million gross acres in 41 states and throughout every major producing basin.

Tesla Motors has won another battle in its war against Texas franchise dealership laws.

The California-car maker has found a work-around that allows it to host more special test drive events for Tesla owners and prospective customers, so long as Tesla (Nasdaq: TSLA) gets the proper permitting.
