Oil scores biggest two-week price surge in 17 years (Video)

After months of declines, global oil prices saw back-to-back weeks of increases.

As of midday Friday, crude prices — bolstered in part by cuts in production — were on track to score their biggest two-week gain in 17 years.

But prices are still about half what they were in mid-2014.

Report: Oil & gas jobs take a nationwide dip

A new report form the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the US lost 1,900 oil & gas jobs in January 2015.

Figures released by the agency on Friday morning show that the sector shrank by 1 percent between December and January.

The number of jobs in oil and natural gas extraction fell from 201,400 to 199,500.

Analysts are blaming the jobs loss on low crude oil prices, which hovered around $50 per barrel this week.
